Part 4: 2018, Here We Come!

Welcome back!

Thanks for joining me in this 4-part series, and if you're new, let me give you a quick recap:

  1. In part 1, we went back to 2008 to see how far we have come.
  2. In part 2, we envisioned 2028 how far we can go.
  3. In part 3, we defined WHAT we want as an outcome at the end of 2018, and WHY.
  4. In part 4, we will plan HOW to get there, and how to arrive on 31 December 2018!

Now the reason I do this 4-part series is, that I want you to succeed and feel fulfilled at the end of 2018!

And because I'm a little concerned...

About most riders...

As riders go through these parts, imagine they are shopping:

- They don't have to 'buy into' everything I say.
- They can take and use those ideas that apply to them.

But you see:

I know that most riders who read part 1, 2, 3 and 4 won't 'buy' or use ANY ideas in those parts.

Because it's time-consuming.

It's thought-demanding work.

And yet, it's ironic that the many riders who work hard day in and day out - at jobs they don't necessarily like, with their 'problem' horses who give them probably a hard time -  when asked to take time to design their own futures, they often reply:

"I don't have time!"

They let THAT - their future - slide.

Now I know from experience that most riders don't make definite plans...

They HOPE things will get better for them and their horse in 2018.

They start the new year with your fingers crossed for 2018.

They will go around with a worried look on their face in 2018.

But don't YOU be a part of that 'most riders'!

We all are, right now, one of the players in the 2018 game.

And in my opinion:

If you don't have goals to shoot at, you aren't playing a very exciting game.

Writing your goals down shows that you're committed to growth, that you're serious.

And to do better, you've got to get serious.

Hey, everybody HOPES to do better.

But hope without taking action can actually hurt you.

Because they say:

"Hope long-delayed makes the heart sick".

So don't be afraid to set a goal and get moving.

And I promise you:

The journey will take you far beyond your wildest dreams.

Goals are powerful!

They DRAW you to changes...

To growth...

To new and creative ideas...

To untapped potential and talents that you never know existed...

You'll be able to handle things you never thought you could handle...

You'll be able to accomplish things that seem impossible to achieve...

Well, that's called "the secrets of life".

All I can tell from my own experience is that goal setting DOES work.

So find out for yourself.

Give yourself the chance to become all you can become in 2018!

To accomplish all you can accomplish in 2018!

Because don't underestimate the power of the last decade as you could feel in part 1!

Gather up this past decade...

All the knowledge you gained...

The skills...

The wisdom...

The experiences...

And life lessons...

And invest them in 2018!

Don't live 'just' another year.

Instead, gather up the past 10 years and INVEST them in 2018!

Start something new, change things for the better, renew yourself in body, mind, heart and soul!

Plan a 2018 worth getting excited about!

Create a strong magnet to pull you forward!

You see, that's the main reason for setting goals:

It's to encourage you to:

Become the person and rider it takes to achieve them.

What do you think is the greatest value in becoming a great horseman or horsewoman?

Is it the ability to do the piaffe?

Or levade?

Or flying change?

Or liberty with 5 horses?

I don't think so...

No, the greatest value is in the skills, knowledge, and horsemanship qualities you'll develop in reaching that goal!

It's the experience you'll acquire in planning training sessions...

In applying training concepts so you can get your horse understands what you want...

In developing motivation strategies to get him do it...

It's the inner strength you'll develop to have enough courage, commitment, willpower, and sensitivity to get the job done!

And here's something else to think about:

If someone hands you a highly educated horse, you'd better hurry up and become an excellent horse trainer...

Because it takes a horseman 30 weeks to have your horse a bit look like his, but it will take you only 30 minutes to have his highly educated horse looks like yours...

It's hard to keep THAT which has NOT been obtained through PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.

So it's not what you GET at the end of 2018 that's important, it's about who you BECOME!

Therefore, in 2018, learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your horse.

And don't wish it will be easier in 2018, wish you become better.

Don't wish for fewer problems in 2018, wish for more skills.

Don't wish for less of a challenge in 2018, wish for more wisdom!

So decide:

"This is what I want, and I am willing to become the kind of person that it will take!".

Because if you're willing to learn, read, study, and grow, and to become what you must become, then you will attract what you want.

As I said before, I don't know how or why it works, but I do know it works.

So let's embrace "the mysteries of life"...

And get ready for the next step:

To do so we need:

  1. Our goals as defined in part #3.
  2. A set of actions that will lead to the final outcomes.
  3. Dates and times to take those actions.

Now to achieve your goals, we have 365 days, where we can take massive action, by taking one step at a time.

And to not get overwhelmed with the big end goals, we can define sub-goals for each QUARTER of the year...

And for each MONTH...

And finally, we know what we want to achieve this WEEK...

And that leads to what needs to be done TODAY!

Now to help you chunk it, let's use two things:

🔸 A DUMP-TO DO-DOING-DONE board for an complete overview of the set actions.

🔸 Your daily journal to schedule the actions on a certain date and time.

The board is used to get you actualize your ultimate goals.

And this is how it works:

  • DUMP: Put all actions that will lead to your outcome on little sticky notes, and 'dump' them in the DUMP area.
  • TO DO: Put the actions you will do in January or in Q1 in the TO DO area.
  • DOING: When you really start doing a certain action, move it in the DOING area.
  • DONE: And when you did it, you move the sticky note to the DONE area.

So during the year, all stickies will move from the DUMP area, into the TO DO area, then the DOING area and finally they end up in the DONE area.

This way, you always have an overview of what still needs to be done to reach your final outcomes!

Alongside, you will use your daily journal, to schedule the actions that are awaiting in TO DO area, so you know when you will be doing them on a specific date and time.

So the combo board + journal will keep you on track along the year.

And because of the board, you don't end up with never-ending to-do lists which have no connection to whatever bigger picture at all.

With the board, you know that all the actions you do are connected to your ultimate vision for 2018, and your Decade Dream!

How cools is that! 👊🏻😃

Finally, I hope that this 4-part series inspired you to set your resolutions, and to really start acting on it in 2018.

Regardless, I wish you a magnificant ⭐️✨ New Year 💫🌟 filled with love, gratitude, joy, fulfillment, family, friends, and unicorns! 💕🙏🏻😃🎊👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👭🦄
