Change your Gremlins
Doing clinics with your horse and having lessons with a (new) instructor in front of an audience is not always easy.
Sometimes there are lots of ‘Gremlins‘ present during clinics, most of them exist only in our mind.
And those Gremlins, especially if we feed them, can make us uncomfortable.
Gremlins are saying: “You can’t do this”, “You’re to old/young/busy/tired/stressed/…”, “Your horse isn’t ready”, “Don’t make a fool of yourself “, “You’re not good enough”, “You will make mistakes”, “What will the audience think of you!”
Gremlins give you a lot to worry about and lots of excuses to NOT attend a clinic/course/lesson/workshop.
But you can be comfortable and change your circumstances by changing your attitudes of mind.
Doing a clinic is 20% physical and 80% mental, our Gremlins are often the only thing stopping us. So:
Change your Gremlins
Perhaps one or more of the following thoughts might be useful for you.
Good-hearted Gremlins:
Fear is what stops you… courage is what keeps you going.
There is no failure, there are only outcomes.
Stop wishing, start doing.
Every clinic and every day you discover new aspects of riding that contribute to the development of your growth.
See riding as a continuous process of growth and enjoy every step in the process.
That voice in your head that says “I can’t” is a big liar.
I can’t? You must! Stretch yourself today!
No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.
There’s only 2 options: make progress or make excuses.
It doesn’t matter how slow you go, as long as you don’t stop.
Only you can stop you.
Don’t compare your results to someone else’s. You can never be another person, you can only be a better version of yourself.
The clinic is another chance to make yourself proud. Do it!
If you make a mistake or you recieve criticism, think “this will not affect my self esteem. I can learn from it.”
Another person’s opinion does not always match your reality.
Don’t let people judge you. You are who you are, and if you work hard, you’ll create an even better you.
To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.
“Every day I will be less dependent on what people think of me!”
The person who said it can’t be done shouldn’t interrupt the person doing it.
“I am listening to winners only.”
Make CHOICES, take CHANCES, and you’ll get CHANGES.
